The highlight of the discovery research was shadowing a 28-season ski patrol veteran, Bert, and his avalanche dog, MsT. I expected the daily ceremonies, avalanche bombings, toboggan rescues, and interviews with active patrollers would yield information regarding rescue efficiency.
What I didn't expect was the overwhelmingly known struggles with mental health many patrollers taxed by executing some of the most technical and gruesome rescues in the world.
